VINTAGE ARABIA FINLAND Cheese Dome & Teak Tray From 1960s Design Heljä Liukko-Sundström

This mid-century modern cheese dome was designed in the 1960s by Heljä Tuulia Sundström, later known as Heljä Liukko-Sundström. The dome is primarly cobalt blue with earthy tone bands in brown and green. The colours used can be seen best in the main picture. The designer's initials HS are signed inside the rim, the other initials are the decorator's initials. The dome comes with an original teak tray. Measurements: height of the cheese dome is 102 mm without the tray and its diameter is 170 mm, diameter of the teak tray is 195 mm. The dome can be used also as a bowl - the handle becomes a stand when the lid is taken off the tray. The dome is in excellent vintage condition. A few light surface scratches and tiny imperfections which have become during the manufacturing process are acceptable, no chips nor cracks. On the original teak tray there are signs of use, they don't show well in the photos but please note that the tray has been in use, it is not new. Oil treatment on a regular basis recommended.

Heljä Liukko-Sundström is a Finnish ceramic artist, professor and writer. She used to work for Arabia from 1962 until 2016. Since then she has continued her work at the Arabian Art Department Association. She also has her retailer own company. She is known especially for her children's books and unique work exhibited both abroad and in Finland. She also has received several awards for her work.
