Both the medallion and suspension device are made in brass; the medallion measures 37.6 mm wide. The design of this medal is very similar to the Soviet Distinguished Military Service Medals. This medal was awarded to both Afghan and Soviet servicemen.

The medal itself is in VERY GOOD CONDITION. There is mild tarnish to the brass which adds character, while the original gilt finish is clearly visible in recessed areas on both sides. The raised details of the artwork are nice and crisp. Unlike many other surviving examples of this award, the medal comes on ORIGINAL SUSPENSION device with ORIGINAL RIBBON. The ribbon shows soiling which may clean off but it is overall well-preserved and sound, still very presentable.

This medal is one of the less common awards of Afghanistan of retailer the Soviet occupation era. It can be a very interesting addition to your medal collection!
