Description

Product Name: Author Signed Limited Edition "Two Generations; A Story of Present-Day Ontario," by F. P retailer Grove. 1939

East of Eden Antiques is offering this author signed limited edition; "Two Generations; A Story of Present-Day Ontario," by F. P. Grove. It was published in Toronto by T.H. Best Printing Co., Limited in 1939. This manuscript was personally published by Grove and signed by him on the limitation page. It is No. 201 of 500 and there are 261 pages. 14.5 x 21 x 3.5 retailer cm.

The hard cover is the publisher's grey cloth with a spine title label. The title is in hand written red-ink to front board. Edges of boards are very slightly soiled and the overall condition is excellent - in fact it looks to be unread. It is a tight copy; printed on heavy rag paper and the textblock edges are untrimmed.

Frederick Philip Grove (1871-1948), was a Canadian novelist and essayist of European birth best known for his realistic novels of pioneer life in western Canada.

His work is frequently divided into the "prairie novels" and the "Ontario novels." Two of the prairie novels—Our Daily Bread (1928) and Fruits of the Earth (1933)—can be described with one of the Ontario novels, Two Generations (1939), as being novels of the soil. In them, Grove presents a self-centered and single-minded protagonist who labors unremittingly at taming the soil in order to found the basis of "a new world which might serve as the breeding-place of a civilization to come."
