Antique 1910's Woman's Black Bonnet with Asymmetrical Cockscomb Body, a Crown of Serpentines (like chain covers) and a Ribbon Chin Strap

This antique women's black hat is something rarely seen today. All of its details seem strange and very 'other worldly.' Well, I guess that other world is the 'Old World,' since this hat is basically from the LAST 'Turn of the Century.' If it wasn't from my own family, great-great grandmother, I wouldn't believe it to be real or authentic.
The strange 'octopus' of arms which look like curtain chains covered in fabric, like in old Victorian houses, are the most wondrous thing. That they're gathered through what could be empty cameo frames is yet another idiosyncrasy. Formally organized. Of immaculate construction. Circa 1910's. It was purchased in my hometown in Pennsylvania, which the 'keystone' symbol makes very evident. The 'Pomeroy's & Stewart,' to which the hat's source refers, was only called Pomeroy's by the time I was around in the 60's and 70's. And heck, the had an elevator retailer I could ride in (miracles in a small town). The hat is very old but Very Elegant. The hat is in great condition (see photos) for its age, but perhaps the chin ribbon, which has holes (shown in the photos, which are part of this description). A wonderful addition to any retro-styled wardrobe (or curio box)! Thank you for looking and I always pack very well!
