Antique Silver & Scottish Agate Plaid Brooch

A wonderful antique Victorian, c1870s, Scottish plaid brooch, featuring a buckled and looped garter belt, inset with finely shaped and polished Scottish sourced agates; incl. Bloodstone, Carnelian, Burn Anne & Banded. Beautiful hand-engraved detail between the agates as well as to the buckle. Brooch is unmarked; many Scottish pieces from this era were unmarked, (apparently it was a way of avoiding duty tax), but tests for silver. Measures approx. 50mm x 45mm and is secured with a typically Victorian oversized pin and open c clasp. In excellent unpolished condition with a nicely aged patina and minimal signs of wear commensurate with age and use; no chips or cracks to the agates and just a couple of minor dents to the silver (as shown in photos). A truly beautiful 19th-century Scottish brooch that's retailer still so wearable today.
