CLASSIC BURMESE RUBIES – Pair of 3.2 mm Round Cabochons - Mogôk Valley Material – Pre-WWII – Vintage – New Old Stock - German Cut
Burmese rubies come from primarily two mines in Myanmar, Mogôk Valley, and Möng Hsu. The historic one that has been mined for centuries is Mogôk, while mining in Möng Hsu did not start until the 1990s. The discovery of rubies from Mogôk Valley is steeped in myth. One legend has hunters shooting down crows and finding rubies in their claws when they retrieved the birds. Upon further exploration there were rubies lying around on the ground, and in this area Mogôk was founded. Rubies have been mined here for millennia, with a rich culture surrounding the mines and the stones from them. This Pair of 3.2 mm Round Cabochons have a rich dark red color. They face-up really well. They have normal natural very light inclusions under magnification. They have NOT been fracture filled. They have a combined weight of .38 carats. Gemstones can look different under different types of light. The redder background images were taken with incandescent house light while the other images used a Daylight LED light source. Sunlight is the best light to view most gemstones. Unfortunately, we rarely have sunlight and blue skies in Maine, so outdoor photos are nearly impossible to take. Our prices are at wholesale. A Gift box is included with this purchase.
