In the original very scarce price-clipped dustwrapper.A collection of the works of William Morris, containing his poems, stories, lectures, and essays. This was the centenary edition, published on the centenary of his birth in 1834.William Morris was a noted Victorian textile designer, artist, and poet, largely associated with the British Arts and Crafts Movement, and the Pre-Raphaelite movement. He was one of the most significant cultural figures of the century.Patterned paper to the paste downs and endpapers.Edited by G. H. D. Cole.Prior owner's ink inscription to the verso to the front endpaper. The Nonesuch Press specialised in limited edition and private press. They were founded by Francis Meynell, his second wife Vera Mendel and their friend David Garnett. Their aspiration was for their publications to be aligned with the same aesthetic standards as the private press movement. They were unusual as they used a small Albion press to design the books, but had them printed by commercial printers. In doing so, books with the quality of a fine-press were produced, but available to a wider audience at lower prices.
