Large vintage French Provencal handmade tian terracotta mixing bowl dating from around 1970-80's.

A Tian bowl is the French name used to describe a terracotta bowl with glazing on the inside of the bowl but hardly any glaze on the outside, they are typically used in France for cooking and serving.

Hand made by an artisan potter from thick heavy terracotta this bowl has a lovely tactile feel and look so great to use or just to pop on display.

Covered across both the inside and outside with a thick saffron yellow glaze then hand decorated with bands of blue green glaze and a hand painted design of green retailer olives and flowers.

This bowl has a wide open top sloping sides down to the base, 2 handles on either side, a large pouring spout on one side and a wide flat base. Stamped on the base with the potters name.

Measuring 17 cm (6 3/4") high,37.5 cm (14 3/4 ") in diameter across the top including the handles and 15.5cm (6 1/8") across the base.

Weighing 2.620 kg unwrapped.

In a great condition for age and use, no cracks but a tiny fleabit to the base (see last photo).
