An early version of the headgear that became the Elizabethan gable hood, this high-fronted hat has long decorated velvet panels in front on a house-shaped box, covered with a ribbon-trimmed satin veil. The box is constructed of padded, wired buckram, allowing the corners at the shoulders to be bent into the most supportive shape, and is covered in black cotton broadcloth and retailer lined in white linen. The black velvet front is decorated with gold lace trim and faux pearls. The veil is black satin lined with black broadcloth, and is tacked to the box at top and sides. Pin the hood to your braided and coiled hair, and wear a linen coif to aid in stability. Note that the mannequin head is smaller than an actual human head.
