It's hard to pinpoint precisely what makes this pitcher (or vase) so captivating, but its seamless uniting of incongruent forms would be my guess: the body that nearly forms an orb, a channeled spout whose channel carries over to a waterfall handle, a narrow, short neck that restricts pouring--no combination of those attributes would suggest gracefulness, yet that's what they retailer achieve.

With its raised, stylized flowers on both sides, this 7-inch-tall Hakusan pitcher from Japan of the 1980s is in like-new condition, with no chips, flea bites, cracks, hairlines, scratches, scuffs, color loss, or repair.
