"All I cannot save," 2020

I've been reading a book retailer about the women who built the abstract expressionist movement and it really highlights how artists don't work in a vacuum. They are influenced by one another and cannot help but find and build upon common threads in their work. The environment they are working in always has a say in what they create, consciously or subconsciously and I find that so interesting. I loved hearing that even painters from the 30's found inspiration in poems and poets. (Check out my friend @ChristopherMcgeownWriting, he was one of the first fellow artists to inspire my work and believe in me from afar. I think you'll all love his work too.) This piece in particular seems to fit well with this poem I recently stumbled across by a poet, also from the 30's:
My heart is moved by all I cannot save
So much has been destroyed
I have to cast my lot with those who
age after age, perversely,
with no extraordinary power
reconstitute the world
